No one knows the power of leading with love like I do. Across a 28-year career in the Nuclear Navy, commanding a Virginia-class fast-attack submarine (USS Texas), leading the largest submarine squadron in the Pacific, and carrying the highly classified “nuclear football” for
President George W. Bush, I learned this truth firsthand:
empathy, trust, and service change everything.
By focusing relentlessly on people, purpose, and high standards, I helped turn around the lowest-performing submarine in a squadron of ten - transforming it into the best. Under this people-first approach, we achieved the lowest turnover rate in the Pacific Fleet for two years running and earned the highest possible engineering inspection score. These weren’t just outcomes, they were the natural result of building trust, fostering accountability, and leading with love.
Inspired by Mr. Fred Rogers' belief that “Life is for Service,” I founded Leading with Love to answer a higher calling.
The Leading with Love Team brings together nearly 200 years of collective academic and professional experience. Our approach is rooted in the Leader Member Exchange Theory, developed by Dr. George Graen, and supported by over 50 years of academic research. Together, we're defining the global standard for evidence-based, human-centered leadership.
